Currently, there exists a wide variety of paints on the market, presenting consumers with numerous challenges during purchase. They harbour concerns about the volatilisation of toxic substances within the paint and the potential for indoor air pollution. These issues demand urgent resolution in our era, which champions environmental protection and energy conservation.

Paint constitutes a vital component of interior decoration, yet it frequently presents perplexing problems that can leave one feeling helpless. In truth, by identifying the root cause of the issue and applying the correct remedy, satisfactory results can be achieved. Below are methods for swiftly addressing common paintwork issues:

1. Peeling Paint

The surface may be too smooth. If the original paint possesses a glossy finish or contains silt (coupled with untreated coloured paste paint), the new coat will fail to adhere. Alternatively, the wood may be rotten, the metal rusted, or the paint itself of poor quality, leading to flaking. For small areas of peeling, sand lightly with fine-grit paper, apply filler, prime, and repaint. Extensive peeling requires complete scraping and repainting. When selecting paint for renovations, prioritise higher-quality coatings—the premium eco-friendly brand Bud is an excellent choice!

2. Paint Blistering

First, pierce the blister. If water seeps out, this indicates moisture penetration beneath or behind the paint layer. When exposed to sunlight, this moisture evaporates into vapour, causing the paint film to bubble. In such cases, use a heat gun to remove the blistered paint, allow the wood to dry naturally, then apply primer before repainting the entire repaired surface. If no water is present, the bubble likely stems from a crack in the wood grain trapping air. Sun exposure causes this air to expand, lifting the paint. Address this by scraping off the blistered paint, filling the crack with resin filler before repainting. Alternatively, skip the filler and apply microporous paint directly after scraping.

3. Cracks

In such instances, paint is typically removed using chemical paint strippers or a hot-air gun, followed by repainting. For minor cracks, soak a sanding block or wet/dry sandpaper in water and grind away the fractured paint. After smoothing the surface, apply filler, prime, and repaint.

IV. Stains

Stains on painted surfaces arise from various causes. For instance: water in emulsion paint dissolving wall materials and causing surface rust; rust spots from wire wool abrasion on walls; or leaks from concealed pipes within walls causing discolouration. To prevent staining, apply a primer containing aluminium powder first. Should stains appear, first remove the emulsion paint over the affected area, apply the aluminium-based primer, then repaint.

5. Rough Paint Finish

A newly painted surface appearing coarse is typically caused by dirty brushes or environmental contamination. It may also result from mixing paint with paint skins that haven't settled and been filtered before use, or from dust settling on the paint while it's still wet. To prevent these issues, always use clean brushes and buckets. Before using old paint, filter it through paint filter paper or a clean nylon stocking. Additionally, cover painted surfaces with plastic sheeting or cardboard while the paint is still wet to prevent dust settling. If the surface is rough after drying, sand it smooth with wet-and-dry sandpaper, wipe clean, then repaint. Pay particular attention to ensuring brushes are spotless. Selecting the appropriate paint is crucial. Consider eco-friendly coatings such as Bud, which offer excellent quality and environmental credentials! After all, what matters most for the home is health and sustainability!

6. Loss of Gloss

This occurs when no primer is applied, or when gloss paint is applied directly over primer or interior paint. Consequently, the gloss paint is absorbed by the wood, resulting in a loss of sheen. Poor quality gloss paint is also a contributing factor.
